Four Ciancone family members came to Kelowna. The first here in 1913 was Ulderico. He married Filomena Verna. He had various jobs including his “worst job”… in a slaughterhouse. After a short time in Seattle, he returned to Kelowna where he worked on water and sewage line installations. Following him was Concetta, who was married to Ambrogio Ciaccia. Next was Alessio (Alec) in 1921. He married Laura Guidi. Alec was a manager at Calona Wines. Last was Ida in 1928. She married Carmine Rantucci. Ulderico had two sons: August and Vince. Augie was a great sportsman who excelled in gymnastics, lacrosse, boxing and horsemanship. In 1952 Augie died at the young age of twenty-six. The City of Kelowna voted him “Sportsman of the year” for his contribution to sport for young athletes and an “Augie Ciancone Memorial Award” is presented annually at the Civic Award Presentation to the best junior athletes. Alec had three children: Gloria, Vilma, and Mario.
