David Hawkins - Host and Moderator
Clelia Bertolami - ​Arrived in Canada from Italy in 1957 on the ship Olympia with her husband, son and mother. Leaving Tuscany and an unsettled political situation in post-WW2 Italy.
Emma Rantucci - ​Arrived in 1952 from Tuscany at age 13 on the ship Saturnia along with her family to establish a new life in Canada with an improved economic outlook.
We had a wonderful evening sharing stories of immigration and finding a new home. Our panelists - Emma Rantucci and Clelia Bertolami - shared their own journeys and experiences. Members of the audience also shared their own personal stories, including:
  • Their reasons for leaving Italy and the emotions tied to leaving home and friends.
  • The challenges and memorable moments of their journey to Canada.
  • Their experiences adapting to a new life in Canada, including learning the language, finding jobs, and building friendships.

The conversation delved into the resilience and courage behind their journeys.
