from our president...
At the beginning of each year, we make a promise to ourselves. We ask ourselves “What can I do to make myself healthier and live longer?”. There is one answer that may surprise you.
If I said, “stop smoking” or “driving the speed limit and wearing your seatbelt”, you would certainly agree and think – I already knew that. So, let me give you an answer that may surprise you.
Volunteer. That’s correct. Studies show that people who volunteer are 20-60% more likely to live longer. No one is sure why that is, but studies consistently show a longer life span and improvement in quality of life. Volunteering lowers personal stress and improves mood. Social interaction is essential for humans and it is part of a normal and healthy life.
KCIC is always looking for volunteers. Volunteering can include sharing your knowledge, whether it be related to your work experience or to your hobby or passion. You may wish to learn something new, such as cooking or minor building fixups. There is something for everyone at our Club.
Volunteering improves the lives of those around us, our community and ourselves. It is a win-win-win.
Volunteering – it’s a promise to yourself that makes sense.
Wishing a Happy New Year to you and your family.
David Hawkins - President KCIC
