WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!
MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS....
Ferragosto is a national holiday in Italy, and it is celebrated on August 15. It's a time to celebrate the middle of the Italian summer and mark the unofficial start to Italy's summer holiday season. KCIC is excited to bring this OUTDOOR celebration to its members so that families can enjoy some quality time together.
And what a great day it was. First of all, a huge thank you to organizers Joe Monna and Josie Guarini, along with their fabulous team of volunteers. You all were amazing. Also, grazie mille to Jason and Rosie Agostino for the donation of the sausages. They were delicious! We were also thrilled to have a little surprise visit from our good friends at Opera Kelowna. Soprano Kelly Coubrough treated us to a little sampling of some classics, including Puccini's O mio babbino caro - a sneak preview of the mainstage production of Gianni Schicchi and Pagliacci on August 23 and 24. Our own Gino d'Orazio even serenaded us with an Italian love song. And, in what has become an annual tradition, we proved that you can eat pasta with both hands behind your back at our Pasta Eating Contest. Congratulations to all the winners. It was a perfect day to picnic under the pergola at the bocce lanes. Thanks to all who joined us. And we'll do it all again next year. See you then! |
