La Storia: Questo romanzo molto apprezzato è basato sulla vita di una giovane ragazza e della sua famiglia mentre diventa maggiorenne in un'Italia dilaniata dalla guerra e travagliata. È il racconto straziante di una famiglia che cerca di sopravvivere sotto il regno di Mussolini e l'occupazione di Hitler. Questa storia illumina ciò che hanno subito persone innocenti, spesso mandate nei campi di concentramento nazisti, soffrendo per la paura durante l'occupazione delle loro città e villaggi, la perdita senza fine dei propri cari, le privazioni, la carenza di cibo e la fame. Nonostante tutto questo, c'è una giovane ragazza che riemerge dalla tragedia per affrontare il futuro con speranza. This highly rated novel is based on the life of a young girl and her family as she comes of age in a war-torn and troubled Italy. It is the heart-wrenching account of a family trying to survive under Mussolini’s reign and Hitler’s occupation. This story illuminates what innocent people endured, often being sent to Nazi concentration camps, suffering in fear during the occupation of their cities and villages, the endless loss of loves ones, deprivations, food shortages and starvation. Despite all of this, there is a young girl who re-emerges from tragedy to face the future with hope. This novel has been described by many reviewers as a difficult story to read. But it has also been suggested that this novel can reset one’s perspective and cause the reader to reflect on prevailing attitudes to our own privileged lives.
