​Juve: Così fa male. Bene il Chelsea in rimonta.

La Juve saluta la Champions in malo modo, prendendone tre in casa dal Villarreal e venendo eliminata. 

Una partita tesa e studiata, dove entrambe le squadre si sono misurate bene nella fase difensiva, con ritmi bassi e tanto possesso palla. Nessuno voleva rendersi vulnerabile e nessuno doveva. Dopo l’abolizione della regola dei gol in trasferta il pareggio avrebbe portato ai supplementari. 

La Juve ha avuto delle ottime opportunità nel primo tempo con la traversa e il colpo di testa di Vlahovic, ma Rulli ha parato bene. Nella ripresa non è successo molto, palleggio della Juve e Villarreal in fase difensiva per 20 minuti, poi i cambi. 

Emery ha lanciato Moreno per Lo Celso, sostituzione che ha cambiato la partita. Moreno, in campo da neanche cinque minuti, ha fornito una buona palla in avanti per Coquelin, anche lui subentrato, che ha anticipato l’intervento di Rugani per guadagnarsi un rigore. 

L’unico modo forse per sbloccare questa partita, ma proprio Moreno dal dischetto non ha fallito. 1-0 al 76’. A seguire, su corner, Pau Lopez ha chiuso i giochi dopo che un rimpallo favorevole ha mandato la palla dalle sue parti. Tap-in e due zero. Nel finale, per aggiungere all’umiliazione, un altro rigore concesso per fallo di mano di De Ligt, ammonito. Danjuma dal dischetto ha ghiacciato Szczesny e l’intero Allianz Stadium, condannando la Juve all’eliminazione. 

Nell’altra partita di mercoledì sera il Chelsea ha rimontato bene il Lille fuori casa dopo l’iniziale vantaggio di Yilmaz dal dischetto. 

Non sarebbe comunque bastato il gol del bomber del Lille per passare il turno. A Stamford Bridge è finita 2-0 Chelsea all’andata, ma il vantaggio del Lille sarebbe potuto essere pericoloso per i Blues. 

Allo scadere del primo tempo Pulisic ha segnato il pareggio per i Blues, che nel mezzo di una crisi politica dopo che l’UK ha congelato gli assetti del club, hanno comunque avuto la forza mentale di ribaltare la partita e assicurarsi un posto agli ottavi, cortesia di Pulisic e del capitano Azpilicueta. 

Ronaldo fa compagnia a Messi e esce a testa bassa. Ajax, che beffa!

Dopo tanti anni di sofferenza e sconfitte, alcune peggiori di altre, l'Atletico Madrid del Cholo Simeone è finalmente riuscito a prendersi la rivincita contro Cristiano Ronaldo. 

Molti anticipavano una performance da record da parte del campione portoghese in vista della sfida di ritorno dei sedicesimi di finale. Ronaldo, reduce da una tripletta contro il Tottenham in Premier League, ha da sempre terrorizzato la squadra di Madrid in Champions, prima con la maglia del Real Madrid e poi con quella della Juventus. 

Questa volta però il Cholo ha avuto la meglio. Ronaldo è stato marcato strettissimo da Savic per tutta la partita, e l’esperienza del veterano si è provata troppo difficile da superare anche per CR7, che è rimasto a bocca asciutta e non ha contributo al gioco dello United come avrebbe voluto, registrando zero tiri in porta. 

Il gol di Lodi è bastato per mandare i Colchoneros ai quarti di finale, dove raggiungono meritatamente Liverpool, Bayern Monaco, Real Madrid, Manchester City e Benfica. 

Per il secondo anno consecutivo entrambi Messi e Ronaldo sono stati eliminati dalla Champions ai sedicesimi, e per quanto riguarda le ambizioni di CR7, non è scontato che rimarrà a Manchester l’anno prossimo, data la situazione della squadra in classifica e la relazione di Ronaldo con Rangnick. 

Nell’altro match di martedì sera il Benfica è riuscito a strappare una qualificazione con un gol di rapina nell’unica vera chance creata per tutta la partita. 

Dopo il 2-2 dell’andata, l’Ajax era favorita per passare il turno giocando in casa e avendo una rosa con più qualità del Benfica. Nella partita però l’Ajax ha sprecato troppe chance, e la legge del gol ha punito la squadra di Ten Hagg duramente quando Nunez ha segnato su corner dopo l’uscita a vuoto di Onana. 

Forse non meritatamente, ma il Benfica passa il turno e dimostra di essere una delle 8 squadre più forti d’Europa, e ora si gioca tutto contro le big, sapendo di non avere quasi nulla da perdere. 

Juventus, what a bad way to say goodbye. Chelsea managed the comeback. 

Juventus said goodbye to the Champions League in bitter fashion, losing 3-0 at home against Villareal.

A tense and calculated match, where both teams measured each other well in the defensive fase, with low rhythms and lots of possession. Neither team wanted to make themselves vulnerable and neither one needed to. After the away goals rule was taken out a tie only meant extra time. 

Juve had some good opportunities in the first half with Vlahovic who hit the crossbar on one occasion and forced a save from Rulli with a header on another. In the second half Juve had the majority of the possession but didn’t achieve much, then the subs came on to shake things up.

Emery subbed Lo Celso for Moreno, the change that shook the game. Moreno in less than five minutes played a good ball forward to Coquelin, who got there ahead of Rugani and forced the Juventus defender to give up a penalty kick. 

The only way to break the deadlock in this game, but it was indeed Moreno who scored from the spot. 1-0 at the 76’ minute. After that Pau Lopez wrapped the game up with a lucky bounce that fell near him at the far post, he tapped the ball in to make it 2-0. At the very end, to add to the humiliation, another penalty was given for De Ligt’s handball. Danjuma converted from the spot, freezing Szcezny and the Allianz Stadium, and knocking Juve out of the Champions League.

In the other game played Wednesday night Chelsea completed the comeback against Lille, after the French team took the lead through their lead man Yilmaz. 

The goal wouldn’t have been enough for Lille to go through, given that it was 2-0 for Cgealsea at Stamford Bridge in the first leg, but it could’ve meant trouble for Chelsea as the game progressed. 
 
At the death of the first half Pulisic scored the equalizer for the Blues, who despite being in the middle of a bureaucratic crisis after the UK froze their assets, were still able to find the mental strength to turn the game around and secure a spot in the last 8. Ronaldo brings Messi company and leaves with his head down. Ajax gets done in.

After so many years of defeats, some worse than others, Ateltico and Simeone finally got their revenge against Cristiano Ronaldo. 

Many anticipated a record breaking performance from the Portuguese in the second leg of the round of 16. Ronaldo, off the back of a hatrick against Tottenham, has always been a nuisance for the Colchoneros in the Champions League, first with Real Madrid and then with Juventus.

This time though Simeone and co. got the better of Ronaldo. CR7 was marked tightly by Savic all game, and the veteran’s experience proved too good for Ronaldo to handle. He finished the game empty handed and without a single shot on goal, along with a disappointing performance in the link up play with the midfield. 

Lodi’s goal was enough to send the Colchoneros to the quarter finals, along with Liverpool, Bayern Monaco, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Benfica. 

For the second consecutive year both Messi and Ronaldo have been eliminated from the Champions League in the round of 16. For what it’s worth to Ronaldo, it’s not for sure that he will stay in Manchester next year, given the team’s current form in the league and his relationship with Ragnick. 
 
In the other Tuesday night fixture Benfica were able to snatch a spot in the last eight with a single goal with the only real chance they created in the match. 

After the 2-2 draw in the first leg, Ajax were favorites to go through given that they would play at home with a team that has more quality than Benfica. In the game though Ajax wasted too many chances and they were punished when Nunez scored from a set piece after Onana’s poor exit. 

Perhaps not deserving of it, but Benfica do go through and demonstrate they are one of the top 8 teams in Europe, and now they can play with nothing to lose in the rest of their Champions League journey.
